Speed Limiter Implementation of the Law.
This is when the government decides to implement speed limiter law.
The law is usually introduced for many reasons which are listed below:
- Road Safety
- Reduction in fuel usage
- Reduction in emissions
To ensure that you successfully implement and new speed limiter legislation you need to identify the categories of vehicle to which the law applies.
Once it has been decided which category of vehicle the law is to apply to i.e. buses, you then need to establish a practical timescale in which the vehicles can be installed.
It is normal for the government to give 12 months period to install the speed limiter on a category of vehicle.
Most Governments who adopt this process sometimes have difficulties enforcing the retrofit of existing vehicle as the owners will leave the installations till the last month of the retrofit period.
They surmise that there will be insufficient stocks of kits/or a shortage of technicians due to the high volumes of systems to be installed in a short period of time.
This means that the Government either has to suspend the law or vehicles are unable to be driven on the roads.
Neither of these alternatives are acceptable.
Most countries that have introduced speed limiter legislation have used the EC92/94 (European Standard) or the British standard BS AU 217:1987 as a base for their standard.
Please Note: Those countries who have introduced speed limiter law without a standard usually fail in the introduction of the law due to product problems.
